2017 Election Information

2017 is an odd-numbered year, which means that municipal elections all across North Carolina will be held in the fall. Municipal elections occur between September and November, depending on what style of election the municipality uses. The state of North Carolina provides for four distinct election types, which are detailed more fully on our election information page.

In 2017, municipal elections will occur on the following dates:

1 If necessary. Only the runner-up candidate can request a second primary, and only if the candidate who defeated him/her recieved less than 40% of the vote. See: N.C. General Statute §163-111(b).
2 If necessary. Only the runner-up candidate can request a runoff, and only if the candidate who defeated him/her recieved less than 50% of the vote. See: N.C. General Statute §163-293(b).
